The first part of the documentary mini-series “Harry & Meghan” made it to second place on Netflix in its opening week – behind “Wednesday”.

A good start for “Harry & Meghan”: The first part of Prince Harry’s (38) and Duchess Meghan’s (41) documentary mini-series could be compared internationally on Netflix took second place in the English-language series in its opening week. The other episodes of the documentary series are scheduled to appear on December 15th.

According to the streaming service as of Dec. 13, the first episodes of “Harry & Meghan,” which were released on Dec. 8, were watched for a combined total of nearly 81.6 million hours in the week between Dec. 5 and 11. According to the industry magazine “Variety” the miniseries had the most successful launch of a documentary format on the platform to date.

“Wednesday” on record course?

In comparison: The first season of the in-house series “Wednesday”, starring Jenna Ortega (20), brings in a little less than 270 million viewing hours during the same period. “Wednesday” tops the list for the third week in a row. In addition, the Netflix production is one of the most successful ever. In total, users have looked in just over a billion hours so far. In the first 28 days after the release of a series, only the fourth season of “Stranger Things” (approx. 1.35 billion) and the first season of “Squid Game” (approx. 1.65 billion) have been able to break this mark. “Wednesday” has just under a week before “Stranger Things” may be pushed off the throne of the English-language series.

While “Wednesday” is in the top ten in 93 countries, “Harry & Meghan” is in 85 countries. As in the international ranking, the documentary series ranks second in Germany and the USA. In Harry’s native Britain, however, the production can secure the top position ahead of “Wednesday”.

Harry and Meghan’s popularity has plummeted

Meanwhile, the popularity of Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan in Great Britain had recently fallen. The opinion research institute YouGov recently published a pollaccording to which only 33 percent of Britons had a positive opinion of Harry – and 59 percent a negative one.

Meghan is still below in the popularity scale. 25 percent of Britons see them in a positive light and 64 percent in a negative one. Only Prince Andrew (62) is even less popular at seven percent. 86 percent have a negative opinion of him.

In general, the popularity of the royals has decreased since November – including that of Prince William (77 percent positive, 15 percent negative) and Princess Kate (72 percent positive, 15 percent negative), but they continue to lead the list.
