A bar based on an American model, located in the French quarter of Haidhausen and run by Italians – could that be something? Yes. Because in the Negroni Bar these different influences mix to create a unique experience. The bar just celebrated its 25th anniversary in February.
The star-shaped streets based on the French model in Haidhausen quickly put the guest in a sublime attitude to life. The neoclassical entrance to the bar looks as if it leads to a fancy shop. You are not completely wrong, because the operators definitely rely on exquisites. But inside it is more down-to-earth than expected.
A large open space with simple tables and leather upholstered chairs. All in black. But warm lighting and the occasional splash of color make the room cozy. Colorful paintings do the rest. Next to the till – somewhat hidden – hangs a picture of the Champions League pot. Bar owner Michele Fiordoliva thus identifies himself as an Inter Milan fan. “The bar should be authentic and football is always a good topic at the bar,” he says.
The Italian influences combine with the American interior of the bar to create an interesting mix. Dolce Vita and big city chic.
The name of the bar says it all: with the large selection of Negroni, Campari, the tart brother of Aperol, is introduced here. Ten different variations are offered; from sparkling with Prosecco to heavy with whiskey.
The card is humorously titled: “Old School & New Twist” and reads almost like a book. It includes almost a hundred cocktails, many of them the bar’s own creations. There are also dozens of spritzers, wines, spirits and liqueurs.
In addition, Fiordoliva has 26 different types of gin ready – together with three different tonic waters, connoisseurs can choose from 78 different gin and tonic variants. Knowledge is required.
But in the Negroni Bar there is not only a wide selection of drinks – but also good things from the Italian kitchen. The prices are not cheap in the Negroni bar, but the price-performance ratio is right. There is carpaccio, pasta in a lobster and white wine sauce or giant scampi with avocado and asparagus. The concept works – also because the room is large.
You reach two target groups, says the landlord: the cocktail drinkers and those who like to go out to dinner. “Once customers sit in a restaurant, very few make it to a bar.”
