Near Nice, a detention center project for illegal immigrants will not take place

Ladislas Polski, the MRC mayor of La Trinité, denounced an “absurd and unjust project” which he strongly opposed. He won the case. The project for a new administrative detention center (CRA) with more than 100 places “envisaged” in his town, neighboring Nice, has finally been abandoned, announced Christian Estrosi To Nice morning.

Last week, the Minister of the Interior explained in a letter that this structure for foreigners in an irregular situation was “envisaged” there. Gérald Darmanin, whom the mayor of Nice met on Tuesday evening, “understood that neither I nor my friend Ladislas Polski wanted La Trinité, and he assured me that he would not impose it”, said indicated Christian Estrosi. And to specify: “it is an end point to this affair”.

The current center will close in 2025

In March, the mayor of Nice had himself called for the “urgent” creation of a “deported and temporary” administrative detention center to deal with the “increasing migratory pressure” in the Alpes-Maritimes department, bordering Italy.

The current Nice CRA with 40 places, located in the Auvare police station to the east of the city, will close with its move to the new “police hotel” which is due to open in mid-2025. Several tracks are envisaged to replace it “in the surroundings” of the Auvare barracks, “near the airport” or even “near a motorway exit” explained the mayor of Nice to the regional daily.
