‘My idea was to go to Barcelona,’ reveals Messi, who is set to sign for Inter Miami

In an interview with Mundo Deportivo and Sport, Lionel Messi explains his choice to join Inter Miami, where he must soon sign a contract. The Argentinian explains on the other hand that a return to Barça was his priority choice.

“I made the decision to go to Inter Miami,” revealed Lionel Messi (35) in an interview with Tuesday Mundo Deportivo And Sport. “It’s not 100% complete yet, there are still a few things missing. But we decided to continue on this path,” he added, as Saudi Arabia coveted him to join Cristiano. Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kanté in the kingdom.

“I have received offers from other European teams”

In this same interview, the Argentine world champion also reveals that he wanted in the first place to return to FC Barcelona. “I received offers from other European teams. But I didn’t even evaluate them because my idea was to go to Barcelona and, if that didn’t happen, to leave European football. All the more after winning the World Cup, which I missed before finishing my career here and joining the United States (…) With the same responsibility of wanting to win and always doing things well, but with more tranquility”.

On the conditions of his future signing in Miami, Lionel Messi specifies that he will not arrive with his friend Sergio Busquets in his suitcases: “It is one of the other things that have been said, that I was going to Arabia with Busi and Jordi (Alba, editor’s note), that everything was settled. No, everyone takes care of their future. I obviously kept an eye on them and what they were going to do, but at no time did we agree to go anywhere together. I made my decision for me and I don’t know what they will do.”
