Olivia Rodrigo is one of the shooting stars of the year and is part of the American Music Awards for the first time. The chances of receiving an award are pretty good.

The 18-year-old newcomer Olivia Rodrigo (“Drivers License”) will be the favorite in the race for the American Music Awards on Sunday evening (LA time; CET 02.00) with seven nominations.

At the awards ceremony in Los Angeles, Rodrigo can hope for prizes for the best album (“Sour”) and as the best new artist, among other things. In the main category Artist of the Year, the Korean pop band BTS, the Canadian rapper Drake (35, “Certified Lover Boy”), his compatriot The Weeknd (31, “Blinding Lights”) and pop singer Taylor Swift ( 31, “Red”) nominated.

During the live show hosted by singer Cardi B, in addition to Rodrigo and BTS, Coldplay, Jennifer Lopez and the Eurovision song contest winner Maneskin from Italy also want to perform. You are nominated for “Beggin” in the “Best Trend Song” category.

Last year Swift won the artist of the year award for the third time in a row, and with a total of 32 awards she also holds the “AMA” record. The awards in categories such as pop, country, hip-hop and R&B have been given since 1973. The nominations are based on the musicians’ album sales, but the winners are then decided by fans on the Internet.
