Beyoncé reaches for spectacular Grammy record

Targeting 32 statues: US singer Beyoncé is only a few Grammys away from a historic triumph. But other superstars are also hoping for the golden gramophone on Sunday.
US singer Beyoncé has nine Grammy chances as of Sunday night (US time) – if she wins four, she has won more of the prestigious statues than any other person in history.
So far, the 41-year-old with 28 Grammys, together with the American producer and songwriter Quincy Jones, is in second place in the all-time list of the best – behind the already dead British-Hungarian conductor Georg Solti (31).
When it comes to success, there are hardly any superlatives left for Beyoncé. With tens of millions of records sold and seven studio albums, all of which reached number one in the US charts, she is one of the most successful musicians in the world – and one of the richest.
She has already set several records in the charts. But at the 65th Grammy Awards on Sunday, she could further cement her status as a pop legend.
“Break My Soul” could tip the scales
Beyoncé released her seventh studio album, Renaissance, after a six-year hiatus. On the danceable record she once again got to the heart of the zeitgeist. At the awards ceremony on Sunday in Los Angeles, the hit single “Break My Soul” could make the difference: The song is nominated in the two main categories “Best Song” and “Best Recording” of the year as well as in several other categories.
In addition, “Renaissance” is the best album at the start – against “30” by British singer Adele or “Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers” by US rapper Kendrick Lamar.
Behind Beyoncé is Lamar – who re-released a critically acclaimed rap work in 2022 after groundbreaking previous albums – with eight nominations for the Grammy’s Most Upcoming Artist.
Trevor Noah moderates
Adele and singer Brandi Carlile each make the list seven times. They are followed by stars like Mary J. Blige, DJ Khaled, Future and Harry Styles – who will also perform. The gala will again be moderated by comedian Trevor Noah. According to the organizer, Grammys will be awarded in 91 categories this year.
Incidentally, Beyoncé already holds a Grammy record: Together with her husband, rapper Jay-Z, she has received a total of 88 Grammy nominations in her career – more than any other music star. Around 13,000 members of the Recording Academy decide on the winners of the Grammys, which are among the most coveted music awards in the world. In 2022 the musician Jon Batiste, the singer Olivia Rodrigo and the duo Silk Sonic had cleared.
