Münster: Investigations against SEK officials because of right-wing chats

Status: 07/15/2022 1:02 p.m

Investigations are underway against several officers of the special police unit in Münster – because of alleged right-wing and pornographic chats. 20 police officers are said to be involved.

Eight police officers are being investigated for, among other things, right-wing extremist content in a chat group, seven of whom are still with the SEK Muenster belong. The eighth suspect is now in another authority, police chief Alexandra Dorndorf said at a press conference on Friday.

Chats apparently right-wing extremist and glorifying violence

The chats – created between 2013 and 2018 – were apparently partly right-wing extremist, glorifying violence and sexist. Dorndorf was shocked by the case. She promised to turn “every stone” and clear up the case completely.

According to the police, the eight suspects were suspended on Friday morning. A total of 20 officials were involved in the chats, including prison officers, but they did not share all criminally relevant content.

For reasons of neutrality, the investigations are being carried out by the police headquarters in Bielefeld. The State Office for Training and Promotion of the Police, as the higher authority, is responsible for evaluating the content. A total of several thousand files and messages are to be evaluated on three mobile phones. The eight accused are all men.

Two years ago Hitler pictures in chats

Two years ago, several chat groups were uncovered by the police in Mülheim/Ruhr, in which, among other things, pictures of Hitler or inflammatory content had been shared. At that time, however, no SEK police officers were involved.

We will report on this topic on July 15, 2022 WDR TV in local time Muensterland as well as on the radio on WDR 2 in the Münsterland local time.
