Munich’s mayor Dominik Krause marries his partner – Munich

Mayor Dominik Krause (Greens) and his partner Sebastian Müller are getting married. His “now fiancé” asked him on holiday during the Whitsun holidays, said Krause. He didn’t need any time to think about it, but said yes straight away. At first, the Munich Evening News reported on the wedding plans in the mayor’s office.

The proposal was not surprising. Krause and Müller have been together for 16 years; they met while dancing. During their time as a couple, they had already talked about marriage a few times, said 33-year-old Krause, including when the Bundestag passed “marriage for all” in 2017.

But at the time they were both still studying and felt it was too early. “Now we feel so settled that we want to make it official,” said Krause, who became the first openly gay man to become deputy mayor of Munich in October last year.

He and his partner still have to discuss when and how they will get married. The two of them would certainly have the option of holding the ceremony in the town hall on Marienplatz. Krause said he doesn’t yet know whether this would mean that their professional lives would interfere with their private lives.
