Munich without Oktoberfest: “Missing is not an expression” – District of Munich

“Missing is not an expression!”, Says Christoph Sappel, secretary of the Grünwalder Trachtenverein “D’Isartaler” while trying out the old inn for the local Wirtshauswiesn this Saturday, where the Deiningen brass band will play. “Something’s missing!”, He confesses, “and that two Oktoberfest in a row.” The Wirtshauswiesn, he adds, “can only partially replace that.”

Because how can you compare a normal inn with the “Augustiner Südwand”, where Sappel and his friends usually meet. They know how to operate there and that has clear advantages. Sappel misses these meetings with people he usually doesn’t see all year round. And also with new acquaintances, which are often very exciting. For example, he once got to know a BND employee.

Hans Häusler, chairman of the Isartaler for 42 years, on the other hand says: “Hacker tent, always hacker tent.” On the one hand, this is due to the fact that he went to school with Toni Roiderer, and on the other hand, because his father once worked in today’s Roiderer butcher’s shop in Straßlach. In addition to the hacker’s tent, the two of course also have a preference: the traditional tent at the Oiden Wiesn, where they have often performed with Schuhplattler and folk dances. You can hear them both sigh at the thought of it.

Not a real Oktoberfest – DJ Woiferl and his wife Gisela cannot complain about that. They have so many small Oktoberfests to celebrate during the two Oktoberfest weeks that they have plenty of opportunities to wear their traditional outfits.

Gisela Kraus and her husband DJ Woiferl helped organize the festival in the Valentinspark in Unterschleißheim and are there privately every Sunday in the Valentinspark.

On the one hand, they helped organize the “Valentinspark Wiesn” in Unterschleißheim, where they can be found in private every Sunday evening, and on the other hand, they work as entertainers on numerous occasions. For example, on the last, almost the first Oktoberfest weekend, there were four Oktoberfests for them on a single day: two in companies for their employees, a 50th birthday with Ozapfn and a celebration in the Olympic Stadium on the 11th floor of the “Weitblick” . On Friday they went to the Waldwirtschaft in Pullach, and next weekend they’ll go to the inn next to the Taufkirchen town hall. Of course, everything is corona-compliant, as you emphasize.

Still, yes, they also miss the Oktoberfest. “We were at home there,” says Woiferl Kraus, who everyone only knows by his stage name, which, by the way, is also in his passport, which the mayor of Unterschleißheim, Christoph Böck, took care of, said Woiferl. The artist couple lived there for eleven years and have since moved to Neufahrn. At the Oktoberfest, the real one, “there is hardly anyone we don’t know,” says Woiferl. A big family, so to speak. In Bodo’s back tent, DJ Woiferl achieved the title of “First Oktoberfest DJ” in 2016 – he played in the tent on Sunday afternoon, although until then only live bands were considered for the Oktoberfest. He and his wife felt at home especially at the Oiden Wiesn. “Everyone misses it,” he is sure. Also because the “carnival festival” has not yet penetrated there.

Life without Oktoberfest: Ex-Mayor Horst Röhrig, who has traveled from Hesse, does not allow himself to be deprived of his annual Oktoberfest feeling and treats himself to his "business trip" retired to Munich.

Horst Röhrig also loves the Oide Wiesn, to which he particularly enjoys going. On Saturday morning a week ago, usually the first day of the Oktoberfest, the man who came from Hesse sits in the Gasthaus zum Wildpark in Straßlach-Dingharting and enjoys the veal sausage while the beer is being tapped right next to him. Just a substitute for him too. He’s been coming to the Oktoberfest for a good 20 years. Until 2019 he was mayor of the Hessian community Lang Göns for 24 years. As such, he traveled every year to the Mittelhessen stand at the Expo Real, which usually took place at the same time as the last Oktoberfest weekend. “Economic development is a matter for the boss,” he decided. This beautiful routine ended two years ago with Röhrig’s retirement, but he did not want to give it up. And because he has always been a regular at the Hackerzelt, he naturally ended up at the Roiderers’ Wirtshauswiesn.
