There are 16,000 volunteers at the European Championships, 1,600 of them in Munich alone. Their voluntary work is extremely important for the success of the tournament. They will not only take home contacts and memories, but also some curious anecdotes.
Marius Herzig is sitting on a sofa in the volunteer center in the north parking lot of the football arena in Fröttmaning. It’s getting close to the end of the day, the third of six European Championship games in Munich between Slovenia and Serbia was more than two hours ago. But in the volunteer center on this Wednesday evening there is little sign that everyone wants to get home quickly.
