At full speed, a truck loaded with fresh vegetables caught fire in Ramersdorf on Tuesday. According to the police, the 39-year-old driver was on his way to the wholesale market hall on Chiemgaustrasse at around 5.45 a.m. when the vehicle’s semi-trailer came into contact with a tram overhead line near Aschauer Strasse. The roof area of the semi-trailer caught fire as a result of the high-voltage current, and the load was completely destroyed as a result. The driver from Spain was unharmed.
The police assume a value of 50,000 euros. She estimates the damage to the vehicle at 10,000 euros. The metal cover of the overhead line was also damaged. Chiemgaustraße was closed for around an hour during the firefighting operation. The truck was driven onto a commercial property and a specialist company is responsible for emptying it.
