Have you had a bad day – or are you simply overwhelmed by the task of driving a tractor-trailer? The chaos of a truck driver’s journey through Munich on Friday afternoon raises questions. Within a very short space of time, the man caused three accidents with his truck combination. Luckily no people were hurt. “The extent of the total damage cannot be estimated,” said the Munich fire department, which had to rush to the man’s aid in the second crash.
During the midday hours, the crash pilot misjudged the altitude of his vehicle for the first time. It got stuck under an underpass in the Berg am Laim district. The trailer of his team was already significantly damaged. By maneuvering back and forth violently, the man was able to get his vehicle back on the road again.
Accompanied by the police, he was then supposed to drive his truck to the nearby police station to record the accident and make a statement. At a construction site barrier on Aschheimer Strasse, he misjudged himself again and parked his tractor in a grass verge. The axle touched down on the ground. Numerous cars were piled up behind the truck. Because the whole thing happened near Ramersdorf fire station 5, the backlog there also blocked the alarm exits.
That’s why firefighters rushed to help the unfortunate driver. Using the winch from a rescue truck and various substructure materials, they were able to get the truck running again. However, they had to move a temporary traffic light in order to be able to free the vehicle.
Free again, the driver continued on his way to a shipping company under police escort. The road safety of the vehicle should be checked there. First, however, the truck driver also rammed a vehicle that was parked there with his tractor-trailer.
