Munich today – news from November 26th, 2021 – Munich

The city’s quarantine letter was in the mailbox on Wednesday, written on November 23. It said my son had to “go into quarantine immediately until the end of the 10th day (…)”. The good thing about the letter: We have already passed the quarantine to which the health department referred. It ended on November 17th, a week before the letter arrived. Many other Munich families, on the other hand, are right in the middle of it all.

The girl next door from the front building has to stay in the apartment until Monday, the girl from the rear building left for the free day in the morning. My nephew is not allowed out of the house until at least Saturday. With a colleague in the morning at a meeting, the child peeked into the screen. He was just a little bored, it was the second day of quarantine.

Everyone had hoped that this autumn and winter would be different, that the families would be less stressed than before in the pandemic. But now so many classes are in quarantine in Munich that the city can no longer keep up with its list and is not publishing any more at the moment. Homeschooling and home office – for many families it starts all over again.

My colleague Kathrin Aldenhoff spoke to four Munich parents whose children have to stay at home (SZ Plus). How are you? How do you manage to keep the situation bearable? And how will it go on?

For Nicole Proemper and her six-year-old son, it is the third quarantine within four weeks. Ida Strehle, her husband and the three children pass the time playing in the garden, building caves in the house and watching a movie in the afternoon. She says: “The quarantine is a total burden on our family.”

With Kathrin Pauli, her husband and her five-year-old son, all of the Christmas presents for the grandparents are now ready, although there is still a month left. At least the Christmas decorations are already hanging in my family.
