The Tegernseer Landstrasse in Munich is a noisy street, between the Ostfriedhof and the post office (yes, there is another post office) also quite a busy one. The walker is all the more surprised when he turns into the gravel road – and ends up in another world. Narrow cobbled streets, cute little houses, everything a little crooked, motley and out of date. Master Eder is said to have moved into his workshop here for the Pumuckl cinema film, and in the neighboring Obere Grasstraße, the artist Clemens Geyer transformed his little yellow house into a work of art himself.
The square is called Feldmüllersiedlung, after Therese Feldmüller, who bought the land and resold it in lots at affordable prices to day laborers and field workers. The watchmaker’s house in Obere Grasstraße was built there around 1840. The mini house was right across from Geyer’s house until it was razed to the ground on September 1, 2017. Now the owner and the head of the construction company, which should renovate the house according to the permit, are before the district court. There is talk of innocence, of oversights, of mistakes and of a “dropout” that ultimately led to the Uhrmacherhäusl no longer existing. But can that be?
