Munich today – news from March 14th, 2022 – Munich

It’s a nice job to be a writer. You get to know interesting people, conduct interviews, and have stories and biographies told to you. And write them down. For example, I recently met Hanno Renner, who founded Personio in 2015. Over the past seven years, Renner and his co-founders have developed human resources management software for small and medium-sized businesses, which is now used in more than 6,000 companies. Personio now has more than a thousand employees and is valued at almost six billion euros. Renner manages to stay humble and still think big – so he is now at the head of one of the most successful start-ups in Munich.

Hanno Renner is not alone. Anyone founding a high-tech company in Germany is particularly attracted to Berlin and Munich, the second capital of the start-up scene. Although the newly created companies have long been a decisive economic factor in the city, they are still often overlooked. Of course, most Munich residents know that many traditional companies such as BMW, Infineon, Wacker Chemie and Knorr- Bremse are based in their city. In the meantime, word has gotten around that a number of tech companies such as Apple and Google have moved to Munich.

However, many do not know how many ideas, money and potential are in start-ups. A successful ecosystem of scientific institutions, family businesses, corporations and young founders has developed here over the past two decades, which has recently attracted a lot of capital. A story about people who know what they want and don’t take the easy way into a large corporation, but do their own thing (SZ Plus).

THE DAY IN MUNICH

Maxvorstadt: The poet’s villa is being rethought Construction work on Paul Heyse’s former home will soon begin behind the Glyptothek. The plans for the memorial in Maxvorstadt are still being debated to this day.

Blocking the subway: How is it going without the U3 and U6? Because the subway tunnel between Goetheplatz and Implerstraße is being renovated, passengers have to use buses. Up to 42 vehicles are used for replacement traffic – the first bus is not always the best choice.

Munich takes action against gender-based violence The city is pushing for more places in women’s shelters, warnings of digital violence and wants to raise awareness of the issue – so that murders of women are no longer downplayed as “family drama”.

Donations in kind for refugees: What is needed at the collection point in the Olympic Park? The city had actually asked for cash for refugees from Ukraine. But because there were short-term bottlenecks, the social department is now collecting diapers, shampoo and dog food in the small Olympic Hall. What is missing now.
