Munich today – News from January 25th, 2022 – Munich

Actually, one could have been happy today in the Deutsches Theater. There they heard good news from the State Chancellery: For the next piece in the schedule, at least half of the seats can be occupied again from this Thursday, like all other cultural sites in Munich – the corona rules in the country will be relaxed. The 50 percent occupancy rule was expected, but it would have been of little use as long as the one and a half meter safety distance had continued to apply. The hall could not have been filled halfway, it would simply be too small. But the Bavarian cabinet has now also overturned the minimum distance, so that the audience can spread out in a chessboard pattern at the preview on February 2nd.

The actual piece that is currently being performed at the Deutsches Theater is not the upcoming production of “Jekyll & Hyde”. The supervisory board dismissed the theater double leadership because they withheld the Munich allowance for the employees – wrongly. The two directors, Carmen Bayer and Werner Steer, reply that they were still waiting for a legal clarification of the case before paying out. At first glance, that doesn’t sound like an irresolvable difference of opinion. Nevertheless, it seems to have shattered the basis of trust (SZ Plus).

Not much else is coming out of politics and theater at the moment. And one wonders how fiercely one might have argued behind closed doors, which intrigues might have taken place before the harsh expulsion followed. At the moment, when more trivial things are already being inflated into the cabal series on Netflix, a stage play could certainly be made out of it. But honestly, it’s more exciting with “Jekyll & Hyde”, “Thriller”, the “Rocky Horror Show” and “Young Frankenstein”. And to calm your nerves, please everyone watch the Beatles revue: “All You Need Is Love”.
