When asked in the interview whether she could have imagined a different life than in politics, Christine Strobl answered quickly and unequivocally “yes”. If she hadn’t been in politics for three decades, she probably would have spent her life with books.
She had already sent in her application for training as a librarian after graduating from high school. It turned out differently. In 1990, the Social Democrat was elected to the Munich City Council for the first time. Later she was mayor for 14 years, first with Mayor Christian Ude, then with Dieter Reiter. Social policy was at the center of her work, and education and sport were also close to her heart. For the 2020 local elections, the 60-year-old withdrew from politics of her own accord.
This week, the city council made her a new honorary citizen. The factions agreed that Strobl had done a very special job for the well-being of the city.
