Munich today – news from December 7th, 2022 – Munich

With Christmas markets it’s like with the Wiesn – either you love them or you think they’re basically stupid. While some try to get in the mood for Christmas in front of a glittering Advent backdrop, for others the markets are nothing but superfluous commercial spectacles, where everything is far too expensive.

You can see it that way, but you don’t have to. My colleagues Katharina Haase, Jana Jöbstl, Lea Kramer and I looked around at five different Munich Christmas markets and describe why it’s worth stopping by there of all places – for a roll, a drink or a gift. Each of these markets – whether you call them Christmas, winter or end-of-year markets – has its own character. Everyone offers their own specialities, which might also appeal to the self-professed Advent grouches. You just have to trust yourself.
