Munich today – News from April 13th, 2022 – Munich

What kind of waves did she make at the time, Prime Minister Markus Söder’s announcement that Munich would be separated from Upper Bavaria and made into its own eighth government district. A reform of the administrative structures – sounds pretty dry, but would have huge effects. It was early 2020 when Söder made his plan public. Much was written at the time about all the questions raised by the project. To date, however, only very few have been answered.

A good two years later, Söder has also given the planned concert hall in Munich’s Werksviertel a “pause for thought” (SZ Plus). On this occasion, my colleagues Heiner Effern, Andreas Schubert and I took a look a year and a half before the end of this parliamentary term to see what had actually become of other projects that the Prime Minister of the City of Munich had promised (SZ Plus). From the many new apartments that the state-owned company Bayernheim is to build by 2025. From the 365-euro ticket for everyone, from the S-Bahn Nordring and the tram through the English Garden.

And also from the administrative district of Munich. Spoilers: Nothing has happened so far. It is a “long-term project that cannot already be implemented in this legislature,” said a spokesman for the responsible Ministry of the Interior. Sounds kind of like “pause for thought”, length: open.
