Munich today – news from 11/28/2021 – Munich

A bit of light at the end of this gloomy year – what could be nicer. And so there is at least a small ray of light in these times, which begins this Sunday and will last eight days: The Jews in Munich celebrate Hanukkah, the festival of lights. To start with, Mayor Katrin Habenschaden (Greens) said a greeting this evening, which is also a nice gesture: After all, it shows the importance that Jewish culture now enjoys among the city’s top.

At Hanukkah, events in Jerusalem that go back more than two millennia are remembered. It is about the Maccabees uprising, through which the Jews freed themselves from the Greek occupiers. The focus of events on Hanukkah is the Second Temple of Jerusalem, its rededication – and an oil jug that is still legendary today.

Because of this jug, there is a very special custom for the Hanukkah festival of lights, with which one commemorates the events of that time and about which there have been discussions among the faithful for a long time. And the dishes that are served during the festive season have, as is so often the case in Judaism, an impressive symbolism that is closely interwoven with the occasions that are remembered on the respective holidays. But I don’t want to reveal too much, you can find all the background information about Hanukkah here in my text.

THE WEEKEND IN MUNICH

Queuing for the rapid test Those who need a corona test at short notice in Munich are often unlucky: The rush at pharmacies and test stations is huge.

U 5 to Pasing costs almost a billion euros Higher construction prices and new technical requirements make the extension much more expensive than expected. It is unclear whether the city will be left with the costs.

Mulled wine in the Alter Hof – compliant with the rules or reckless? At the “winter quarters” people stand and drink close together – even though Christmas markets are banned due to the corona pandemic.

The Greens on the way to the People’s Party For the party, grassroots democracy has always been a cornerstone of its policy. But how is that supposed to work so that everyone can always have a say if one is suddenly overrun by members? With a reform.
