Holiday time. In Munich and the surrounding area, this is the time when northern German friends like to stop off on the way to the Brenner. The Preißn come, they say, and that is not meant in an unfriendly way. For us Bavarians, a Preiß is anyone who lives beyond the so-called Weißwurst equator. This equator is not a fixed line. For some, the Main is the border, for others it is the north of Hesse. It makes no difference at all whether the Preiß is a Prussian or a Lower Saxon.
