Munich: Teachers defend themselves against the gender ban in Bavarian schools – Munich

A petition with 33,000 supporters was handed over at a protest at the state parliament on Thursday evening. Union representative Christiane Fuchs explains why the asterisk ban leads to anger and fear.

Many teachers are resisting the gender ban in Bavarian schools. Since April, teachers have no longer been allowed to use gender asterisks in letters to parents, annual reports or even in exam tasks to indicate that everyone is meant – and also not an underscore or colon. The three initiators of the “Teachers Against the Gender Ban” alliance criticize the idea that teaching children values such as tolerance, diversity and the plurality of society is not possible.
