Another warning strike at the Munich Transport Company (MVG) began on Friday night in Munich. According to MVG, most subways and trams do not run. However, the U6 (as of 8 a.m.) has now started operating. A 10-minute cycle is aimed for, it is said. The bus service is limited, the vehicles run at irregular intervals. Lines 58/68 and 153 have been discontinued (as of 6:25 a.m.).
The walkouts are expected to last from 3:30 a.m. to 3:30 a.m. on Saturday. S-Bahn, regional buses and regional trains are not affected by the strike, they run according to the timetable. You can find the latest operating reports from MVG here.
Despite the strike, the situation on the streets of Munich did not seem particularly tense in the morning – possibly because many people are off because of the bridge day.
Whether other Munich subways besides the U6 go into operation during the day depends on the number of staff available in the control center and in the driving service. When it comes to trams, priority is given to line 20, which is in high demand.
The MVG customer center at the main station is open. The customer center at Marienplatz, on the other hand, is closed, and the MVG lost and found office also remains closed due to the strike.
The Verdi union called for work stoppages not only in local transport in Munich but throughout Bavaria on Friday because it was unable to reach an agreement with the employers in five rounds of negotiations. “These warning strikes are the logical consequence,” said Sinan Öztürk, Deputy Regional Manager of Verdi Bavaria.
