Munich: Strike at the MVG – what’s driving, what’s still – Munich

Another warning strike at the Munich Transport Company (MVG) began on Friday night in Munich. According to MVG, the trams and subways are not running. At least the U6 was still running every ten minutes until the early afternoon, but from 3.30 p.m. it stopped running again. The bus service is limited, the vehicles run at irregular intervals. Lines 58/68 and 153 have been discontinued.

The strike also hits fans who want to go to the Andreas Gabalier concert in the Olympic Hall in the evening. As the MVG writes, the bus lines are not an alternative due to the severely limited capacity; she recommends “starting early and accepting longer walks”. The Grünwalder Stadium, where TSV 1860 Munich is playing that evening, is also difficult for fans to reach.

The walkouts are expected to last from 3:30 a.m. to 3:30 a.m. on Saturday. S-Bahn, regional buses and regional trains are not affected by the strike, they run according to the timetable. You can find the latest operating reports from MVG here.

Despite the strike, the situation on the streets of Munich did not seem particularly tense in the morning – possibly because many people are off because of the bridge day.

The Verdi union called for work stoppages not only in local transport in Munich but throughout Bavaria on Friday because it was unable to reach an agreement with the employers in five rounds of negotiations. “These warning strikes are the logical consequence,” said Sinan Öztürk, deputy regional manager of Verdi Bavaria.
