Munich: Storms with hailstones up to five centimetres in size possible – Munich

Summer has barely arrived in Munich with high temperatures when the German Weather Service (DWD) warned on Thursday of isolated heavy thunderstorms with hailstones with a diameter of around five centimeters, heavy squalls or hurricane-like gusts between 90 and 120 kilometers per hour and heavy rain. These are expected to occur in the afternoon and evening.

In addition, the storms are expected to be limited to a limited area. According to the DWD, the south of Bavaria is particularly affected. The greatest risk of storms is reportedly near the Alps in the evening.

According to the DWD, it will be significantly cooler in the Free State this weekend than in the previous days, with highs of up to 25 degrees. On Saturday, the DWD is expecting further showers and thunderstorms in some areas, and heavy rain in some areas overnight into Sunday. It is only expected to get drier over the course of Sunday with the clouds clearing up. In the Alps, however, it will remain wet in the evening.
