Munich: Rare orchid species spreads in the city area – Munich

For conservationists, the establishment of the bee orchid is a sensation – even if climate change is probably to blame, as Heinz Sedlmeier explains. Male bees are easily confused by the strictly protected species.

The LBV, the State Association for Bird and Nature Conservation, is celebrating one of the effects of climate change. The world is upside down? Not quite. It is due to the establishment of a new species of orchid in Munich, in the wild. It is the bee orchid. A “highlight”, reports the LBV. Heinz Sedlmeier, the managing director of the nature conservation association in Munich, explains why this is so special and why he is happy – despite climate change.
