Garbage cans and houses in several parts of Munich have been on fire almost every day for almost two weeks. Because some fires have spread to porches and residential buildings, according to the police and fire brigade, there has been a high level of property damage. However, the investigators do not yet want to speak of an arson series.
It was not until Monday night that three containers for recyclables were fully engulfed in the Hasenbergl. On Sunday morning, a garbage room below a residential complex in Mittersendling burned out completely. Smoke gases had spread to apartments above. The damage is estimated at at least 100,000 euros.
Garbage cans also burned on New Year’s Eve. On the second day of Christmas, a residual waste bin burned in the Au, in Obergiesing two waste bin houses were on fire. In one case, the fire spread to a house wall, causing damage of several tens of thousands of euros. The same amount of damage was caused on the Wednesday before Christmas when flames spread from a dustbin to the cottage.
In some cases, the police do not rule out intentional arson, but they still do not want to speak of a series. A police spokesman said on Tuesday that there was no knowledge of this so far. Negligence could also be the cause. The fire investigators are still investigating and examining possible connections.
