Munich: Police pull burglars out from under the sofa – Munich

The 36-year-old had previously triggered the alarm when he smashed the glass panes of a shop on Maximiliansplatz. The police are investigating whether he is responsible for further burglaries.

The Munich police pulled out a burglar from under the sofa early on Sunday morning. The 36-year-old hid himself in a clothing store to avoid being caught in the act. Previously, he had smashed glass panes in two shops on Munich’s Maximiliansplatz with a traffic sign stand.

At around 4:30 a.m., the Munich police operations center was informed by a security service about a current burglary. The officers did not find the suspect in the furniture store, but they noticed a broken front door at another store next door. The building was then surrounded by several emergency services. During the subsequent search, the officers met the 36-year-old.

According to the current status of the investigation, he had broken off the first burglary attempt after an acoustic alarm had been triggered and then turned to the second shop. The 36-year-old has a relevant criminal record and is now in custody. Investigators are investigating whether further burglaries can be attributed to him.
