Munich podcast: Prince Leopold of Bavaria on nobility and hand kisses – Munich

He is probably the only motorsport driver in the world who did his first laps on the lap of a chauffeur: Prince Leopold of Bavaria decided on an unusual career – at least for a royal highness born in 1943. The great-great-great-grandson of King Ludwig I. was a racing driver.

How did this happen? How did he get his first racing car? What role did Munich play in his life? How he passes on his fascination for technology to his children – and why not just them, but also the awareness of rules of conduct? That and much more is what the ninth episode of the podcast is about Süddeutsche Zeitung.

With “Munich personally”, the podcast of the Munich editorial team, it usually goes across the city. Ulrike Heidenreich and René Hofmann, the heads of the Munich, Region and Bavaria departments, as well as Leute editor Sabine Buchwald, pick up their guests at their place of residence, their place of work or any other place that is of particular importance to them. With the tram, the bus, the subway or S-Bahn, sometimes the cycle rickshaw or – as with Prince Leopold of Bavaria – in an old sports car, you can go on a tour of discovery or in search of clues.

It’s about current projects and very personal plans, about topics that move the city. About your favorite book, your favorite restaurant, your favorite club. The SZ podcast team invites people who have a connection to Munich. You live in the city or you are visiting. They come from the fields of politics, gastronomy, culture, sports or media.
