The Nuremberg Jesuit Father Jörg Alt is to pay a fine of 1,200 euros for his participation in a street blockade by climate activists on October 28 in Munich. He received the penalty order from the Munich District Court on New Year’s Eve. That day he tweeted: “The year ends with a bang.” At the same time he criticized: “And since it’s the holiday season, the objection period is running without me being able to consult my lawyer. You might think that was the intention.”
On Monday, the religious announced via the short message service Twitter that he was considering an objection. The penalty order nowhere deals with its main argument, the “justifying emergency” that is also regulated in the criminal code. He can explain very well why other means, which he has been using for a long time, are not able to avert impending dangers.
