Extreme events often bring out the good in people. This is how you see it now in Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia, where volunteers are actively helping with the clean-up work after the devastating floods. And so it was shown on a Munich July night five years ago when a city panicked: Strangers took frightened passers-by into their apartments, who were wandering through the city on the run from an unknown danger – the U -Trains and buses no longer ran. The police received more than 4,000 emergency calls that night. There are probably only a few Munich residents who no longer remember where they were on July 22, 2016, when an 18-year-old shot and killed nine people in the Munich Olympic shopping center (OEZ).
