Munich: New Year’s Eve and New Year in the churches – Munich

A selection of church services and church concerts in Munich. Due to the corona pandemic, there is a mask and distance requirement, in some cases also visitor limits (possibly with mandatory registration) or 3G rules. The communities provide information.

Catholic churches

New Year’s Eve: in the Liebfrauendom the year-end sermon begins at 5 p.m. with Cardinal Reinhard Marx, followed by the year-end prayer; music for wind instruments and organ can be heard. In St. Ursula invites you to the “Boléro de concert” in G minor Opus 166 by Louis James Alfred Lefébure-Wély at 5 pm. In St. Joseph The New Year’s Eve vigil begins at 7.30 p.m. with brass and organ. Heart of jesus celebrates at 5 p.m. with festive instrumental music for trumpet and organ.

New Year: in the Liebfrauendom A bishop’s mass begins at 12 noon with Cardinal Reinhard Marx with exposure of the Holy of Holies, followed by silent prayer in front of the Holy of Holies at 1 p.m. At 5.30 p.m. pontifical vespers with Cardinal Marx and polyphonic vespers by the vocal ensemble of the Junge Domkantorei. In St. Michael The Michael Choir and the Orchestra will present Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Coronation Mass at 10 a.m. the Citizens Hall Church invites you to the solemn feast of Our Lady Mary at 11.30 am with Johann Sebastian Bach’s Sonata in E minor, Luigi Cherubini’s “Ave Maria” and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Laudate Dominum” for soprano, flute and organ.

In the Theatine Church a Latin high mass is celebrated with the vocal band at 10.30 am, the “Salve sancta parens” from the “Missa ne timeas Maria” by Giovanni Gastoldi is heard as a proprium. Protestant churches

New Year’s Eve: In the Assumption Church a service with wind music begins at 5 p.m. At the same time plays in the Reformation Memorial Church the trombone choir, and the Paul Gerhardt choir sings in the Paul Gerhardt Church.
