Munich: Mittlerer Ring: Heavy smoke development – tunnel closed on one side – Munich

A tunnel on the Mittlerer Ring was closed in one direction early Tuesday morning, according to the fire department. Heavy smoke had previously been detected there. The cause was an overheated brake on a truck.

According to the fire department, the truck driver was driving on the Mittlerer Ring at around 2:20 a.m. and noticed a lot of smoke coming from one of his vehicle’s rear tires. He drove the vehicle out of the Landshuter Allee tunnel in Neuhausen and came to a stop on the exit.

The fire brigade found that one of the brakes was generating heat. They cooled the rear axle with a hollow jet pipe. The west tube of the tunnel was closed during the work.

The emergency services then helped to recover the truck from the exit. After about 20 minutes, the route was reopened to traffic.
