Munich: Matinees of the Bosl Foundation – Munich

“Oh, sinnerman, where you gonna run to?” sings Nina Simon in the spiritual “Sinnerman”, and one thing is clear, no matter how fast he runs, the sinner, he cannot escape the wrath of God. The song is the soundtrack to the fast-paced dance piece “All Long Dem Day”, choreographed by Marco Goecke, who some consider to be something of a sinner after his dog poop attack on a journalist.

There is no doubt about the quality of his work; “All Long Dem Day” was performed once in June as part of the Bavarian State Ballet’s “Spheres.01” in the Prinzregententheater. It is now on the program of the Heinz Bosl Foundation’s two autumn matinees on November 5th and December 3rd, this time on the large stage of the National Theater.

The Bavarian Junior Ballet and the Munich Ballet Academy are once again showing works from a wide variety of eras in ballet history. They will also sometimes be accompanied live by Volta Ensemble the University of Music and Theater. In addition to Goecke’s choreography, there are, among other things, divertissements from August Bournonville’s “Napoli” to be seen. The final year students, together with David Russo, created a contemporary piece called “Once upon”, inspired by the world of fairy tales and stories. There will also be dancing to Modest Mussorgski’s “Pictures at an Exhibition” and George Gershwin’s “3/4 Preludes”, which inspired Richard Siegal. At the matinee on December 3rd, following the performance, the Heinz Bosl Prize will be awarded to a talented young dancer.
