Munich: Investigations after the bomb explosion – Munich

After the explosion of an aerial bomb on a construction site of the Deutsche Bahn in Munich, an explosives explosion is being investigated for negligent causing. According to the Munich I public prosecutor’s office, there is such a suspicion, as the police announced on Thursday.

Drilling work is said to have triggered the explosion on Wednesday near the Donnersbergerbrücke. The second main S-Bahn line is currently being built there – one of Munich’s largest construction projects. The aim now is to find out as quickly as possible why the 250 kilo American bomb had been overlooked. Duds are not uncommon in Munich, especially near places that were important for the infrastructure during the Second World War, relics are often discovered.

The day after the explosion, Deutsche Bahn (DB) announced that the company would not provide any further information during the ongoing investigation. That the DB applies “fundamentally the highest safety standards” during construction work. How the incident will affect the further course of the construction work is still unclear.

Four people were injured in the explosion on Wednesday, including three construction workers. One of them, a 62-year-old from the Zollernalb district in Baden-Württemberg, was taken to hospital seriously injured. However, there was no mortal danger. Two other construction workers suffered a bang and were released after outpatient treatment. A passerby was hit in the head by a flying stone and suffered a laceration.
