On January 1, 2024, the two municipal housing companies Gewofag and GWG are to merge to form “Münchner Wohnen”. A new real estate giant is to be created with almost 70,000 apartments. Two months before that, the merger process was severely shaken. The opposition in town hall is calling for transparency and an emergency brake. The GWG assures that its solvency is “guaranteed at all times” and that its business operations will continue to run “uninterrupted” even after the Gewofag managing director leaves. Andreas Lehner, the short-term managing director, described the financial situation of the sister company as not being as excellent as that of Gewofag.
