Whatever the weather, Christian Öhlschläger and his brother Stefan could be seen roaming the streets of Munich, scantily clad and sometimes grumbling. He has now died at the age of 72, seven months after his brother.
They were eye-catchers on the streets of this city, with their flashy clothes and shorts, even in the middle of winter. Many Munich residents knew the couple. Now both are dead. Seven months after Stefan Öhlschläger, his twin brother Christian Öhlschläger died at the age of 72.
In all weather conditions, you could see the two lightly dressed walking through Munich: the curls bleached, the long tanned legs bare, often the belly under a tiger print top, in pink or neon yellow. They were known as the Öhlschläger twins, the Hotpants Boys or the Schrillinge. Two brothers who were so good for this town, where most residents wrap themselves in black quilted fabrics from November to March.
According to official documents, they were born on January 6, 1950 as Stefan Gustav and Christian Walther Öhlschläger. Their father, as they said themselves, was the actor Heinz Gustav Hans Öhlschläger (1922-1999), who acted under the pseudonym Heinz Ohlsen in Berlin and Hanover. The sons probably grew up in these cities. In the 1970s they finally moved from Hanover to the Bavarian capital.
Christian and Stefan Öhlschläger shaped the Munich cityscape for decades. “We’ve never been apart since we were born,” Christian Öhlschläger once said. That was in 2019, when you could still see them roaming the streets together, often grumbling, that too was part of them. Most of the time they could be heard before they could be seen. Not infrequently they hissed at each other when they were standing at a bus stop waiting for a bus or tram. There were also people who didn’t like it that much. But in Munich in particular, where Grant is at home, it somehow worked out. Their provocative performances as a shrill double pack were simply part of it.
The death of his brother on January 9 came as a shock to Christian Öhlschläger, life without him seemed difficult to imagine. Since then, the two had been torn apart. Perhaps they are reunited now.
