When a venerable orchestra, which can look back on a 500-year history, and an auction house, which can look back on 100 years, invite you to a joint festive evening, it sounds like 600 years of meaningful pathos – and an event that is always in danger to slip off equally extensive well-groomed boredom. Not so when the Bavarian State Orchestra and Karl & Faber invited to a “journey through time” these days. Admittedly, the title “One hears better with one’s eyes” already suggested that something should be brushed against the grain. But surrounded by old masters in heavy gold frames, one hardly expected what followed from the event: a highly entertaining visual music homage to the arts.
