Munich: “fathers and sons” in the team theater – Munich

What the fathers stand for, the sons have a problem with. The two medical students Yevgeny Basanov and Arkady Kirsanov have dedicated themselves to scientific knowledge. They only want to believe in verifiable evidence, calling themselves “nihilists”. Laws outside of science are irrelevant, parents, tradition, authoritarian order count for nothing. So it is only natural that they encounter conflicts when they return to the country to their parents, the break with their fathers is the natural consequence.

In 1861 the important Russian writer Ivan Turgenev wrote his social novel “Fathers and Sons”, which is considered to be his best-known work. He addressed the generational conflict as well as the upheavals in Russian society. The Theater Impuls, directed by Andreas Wiedermann, has adapted the novel for the stage and is showing it from January 12th to 21st in the Teamtheater gas station – a major production for this venue. With 14 performers, an “epic theater vision” is to be shown here for an audience “which is more than ever interested in enlightened, critical and sensual-analog theater as a space for association and discussion”.
