Munich: fans celebrate, officials ban Bengalos – Munich

It doesn’t always have to be a title that drives football fans onto the streets. On Saturday, the Munich police had to deal twice with supporters who, in their enthusiasm, overshot the mark a little, but remained peaceful: in the afternoon they were Bayern Munich fans on their way to the Christmas party, followed shortly afterwards by supporters of the Croatian national team, who celebrated their team’s third place at the World Cup in Qatar like winning a title.

According to a police spokesman, the Bavarian Ultras of the “Schickeria” went to their Christmas party in the “Backstage” club. On the way from Rindermarkt via Sonnenstrasse to Stachus, well over a hundred fans did what people who use the south curve do: They burned down Bengalos. There were administrative offense reports from the police.

The same thing happened to Croatian football fans, who flocked enthusiastically to Leopoldstrasse after the final whistle in al-Rayyan and the team’s 2-1 win in checkered jerseys. Around 200 cars formed a parade there, which the police had to channel. Ads included because fans waved flaming torches out of the windows.
