Munich: Ex-SPD politician Florian Post joins the CSU – Munich

Former SPD member of the Bundestag Florian Post has joined the CSU. He confirmed this on Tuesday on request. The 41-year-old politician only left the SPD in August of this year. He represented the north of Munich from 2013 to 2021 as a member of parliament in Berlin. In the run-up to the last federal election, his Munich party colleague Sebastian Roloff outperformed him in the decisive list in Upper Bavaria, making his candidacy hopeless. In contrast to his SPD predecessor, Axel Berg, he was never able to win the direct mandate.

Post’s internal party defeat by Roloff led to a rift with the Social Democrats. He is now a member of the CSU in the north of Munich, whose candidate Bernhard Loos ultimately won the 2021 direct mandate in his constituency. After leaving the SPD, the CSU was “the right answer” for Post, he said. “I’ve always belonged to the bourgeois camp.”

He always got on well with his CSU colleagues. He has no career plans in his new party at the moment. “When you’re new, you don’t have to make any claims,” Post said.
