Munich: Entertaining Batman homage in the Marstall Café. – Munich

Towards the end, the play becomes a musical. And one wonders why there really hasn’t been a Batman musical before. There were some with cats and vampires. Then why not one with a bat? The “musical of my boundless sadness” calls it resi-Ensemble member Valentino Dalle Mura, who appeared in “Bruce and the longing for the light” completed a solo about his favorite comic “Batman”. The premiere was on May 6th in the Marstall-Café, the next performance follows on May 15th, after that the piece developed and directed by Florian Hein is again on June 2nd and 13th You should be a Batman fan, after all, it’s about some “nerdy” questions, but also about other aspects that you might not have guessed.

The musical? Well, you only see and hear Valentino Dalle Mura singing, at the very end he has a duet with Andreas Reisner. The 50 dancers and Conchita Wurst alias Tom Kaulitz in one dress, you have to imagine them. The props are very minimalist overall. But the famous Batman mask and wings are still visible. And also the Gotham City skyline, which consists of pillars with luminous rectangles. A simple and beautiful idea.

The history? It’s essentially Batman’s. You learn about the trauma that Bruce Wayne, the billionaire behind the mask, suffered as a child. But also that Dalle Mura as a child in the film “Batman & Robin” with George Clooney and Arnold Schwarzenegger. The film is characterized by an involuntary comedy. Dalle Mura reenacts scenes from it, he includes a homage to the trashy Batman series from the sixties as well as allusions to the impending nuclear war and to Christian Lindner, which crosses the border to comedy several times and results in an overall entertaining homage, which above all, but not only, comic nerds should enjoy.
