Munich district: Sparkasse converts ATMs – Munich district

The Kreissparkasse München Starnberg Ebersberg has reopened several temporarily closed self-service branches after a series of bomb attacks on ATMs. Customers can use it to withdraw money from ATMs at the Technical University in Garching, in the Hochbrück district, in the Neukeferloh district of Grasbrunn, in Putzbrunn, Hohenbrunn and Oberhaching. The ATM in Inning am Ammersee was reopened before Christmas.

The district savings bank took the terminals out of operation as a precautionary measure in early December to prevent possible bomb attacks. Within a few weeks, unknown perpetrators had blown up and robbed the district savings bank’s ATMs at three locations. Attacks on bank ATMs are currently increasing across Germany. Around 800 ATM blasts were registered in 2020 and 2021. The latest surveys by the security authorities indicate that these record values could be exceeded again this year.

According to its own statement, the Kreissparkasse has now increased its security precautions at its own locations. As a deterrent, video cameras and systems were installed at the self-service branches that mark banknotes in color in the event of an attack.
