Munich: Climate activists block Frauenstraße – Munich

Six activists from the “Last Generation” movement blocked Frauenstrasse in downtown Munich for about an hour on Monday to protest against the federal government’s climate policy. Three of the six men had stuck themselves to the roadway near the Viktualienmarkt around twelve o’clock.

The police ended the action after about an hour. After the initial chaos, the traffic disruptions were limited, she reports. Around 50 officers were deployed. They diverted traffic, among other things, to Müllerstrasse. A bus of the Munich transport company was stuck for a long time because the vehicle was not so easy to maneuver.

The activists are being charged with coercion and violating the Assembly Act. It was not yet clear on Monday afternoon whether they would have to be taken into custody. Similar campaigns by the group are currently taking place in several cities across Germany. The “Last Generation” had announced that they wanted to take to the streets again from February 6th.
