Munich: Care critic Claus Fussek retires – Munich

Claus Fussek has been fighting for a better care system for more than 40 years. He says: Nurses could be the most powerful professional group in Germany. What is missing? A conversation about compassion, dignity and the fear of death.

After more than four decades of fighting for better care, the rights of old people and for people with disabilities to lead a self-determined life, social worker Claus Fussek is now retiring at the end of January, one day before his 69th birthday. In his office at the Integration Promotion Association (VIF), he has collected reports from relatives and those affected in around 400 folders, but also from many nursing staff. Above all, he is known and feared nationwide for his sharp criticism of abuses in care.
