Prosecutors are investigating whether the former archbishop allowed an abuser to continue having contact with children. In 1962 he was condemned as chaplain of the parish of St. Maximilian.
The public prosecutor’s office questioned the former Archbishop of Munich, Friedrich Wetter. According to SZ information, an investigation into the abuse scandal in the Catholic Church is directed against Wetter as the suspect. It is about “case 26” from the Munich abuse report and a cleric convicted in 1962. The public prosecutor’s office is “investigating the suspicion that former church officials in the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising could have reinstated a priest who had previously been convicted of sexual abuse of children as a pastor and not prevented him from coming into contact with children again”.
