For the first time since the beginning of the Corona restrictions, Munich Airport expects more than one million travelers a month. This limit is to be exceeded as early as July, as the operating company announced on Tuesday. Since the beginning of the year, the demand in air traffic has been increasing steadily.
In June there were almost 854,000 passengers. Compared to the pre-crisis level, however, the numbers are still vastly in the red. In July 2019, 4.5 million passengers had used Munich Airport. That is a good twice as many as the 2.2 million in the entire first half of 2021.
In the second half of the year, the airport expects a further recovery in air traffic: “Hopefully we have now bottomed out,” said airport manager Jost Lammers. The airport currently has connections to 160 destinations: twelve German cities, 133 locations in other European countries and 19 long-distance travel destinations in North America and Asia.
