Mummy! – The Munich Film Museum shows films on the subject of motherhood – Munich

Germany’s biggest riot newspaper recently once again taunted its favorite public opponent: “Tagesschau deletes the word ‘mother’,” was the headline; it was about a report about a draft law and the term “persons giving birth” appearing in it. “Celebrity moms” and Bavarian politicians then spoke up in campaign mode and railed against the “woke madness”. That it’s never a question of deleting the word “Mother” didn’t seem to care.

The Munich Film Museum is now taking on the topic, the film series “Mama!” is intended to show “the perspective of nine female directors on the multifaceted topic of motherhood”. It starts on April 14 with a non-bearing person: Karoline Herfurth plays in “Einfach mal was Schönes” (2022) a woman in her late thirties who wants a child before it’s too late. Since family planning is difficult without a family, the family soon gets involved. Above all, her mother, who is not at all embarrassed, knows everything better: Ulrike Kriener plays this woman very furiously – and was nominated for the German Film Prize. Other highlights of the series are the Annie Ernaux film adaptation “The Event”, the Viennese comedy for parents “What just ruined us” or the “Me Too” drama “She Said”.
