Federal-state meeting on the energy crisis is postponed
Chancellor Olaf Scholz has Corona – that’s why the federal-state meeting is postponed to October 4th.

Stuttgart. The prime ministers’ conference of the federal and state governments will not take place on Wednesday, September 28th as planned. The reason is the corona infection of Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD). North Rhine-Westphalia’s Prime Minister Hendrick Wüst tweeted this. “The Chancellor asked me to postpone the federal-state consultations on the relief package because he cannot attend personally due to his isolation.”

It was also said that the heads of government of the federal states continued to work on solutions in their MPK this Wednesday as planned, “how our country can get through the energy crisis well in autumn and winter”.

A spokesman for the federal government confirmed to the RND that the federal-state meeting has been postponed to October 4 so that a face-to-face meeting is possible. Chancellor Olaf Scholz is currently in quarantine due to a corona infection.
The Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg, Winfried Kretschmann, had previously informed about the transfer.

Dispute over financing of the relief package
The federal and state governments wanted to negotiate the third relief package that the traffic light coalition presented at the beginning of September as compensation for rapidly rising prices. These include one-off payments for pensioners and students and a price cap for basic electricity requirements. The federal government offers money for a follow-up offer of the 9-euro ticket – if the states help finance it. Criticism came from the federal states about the distribution of the costs of the relief measures agreed by the traffic light between the federal and state governments.

Individual countries threatened blockades in the Bundesrat.
The MPK chairmanship of North Rhine-Westphalia ends at the end of the month and then passes to Lower Saxony. Wüst will then be co-chair of the country group in October.
