Mourning for Nuremberg’s ex-City Law Director Hartmut Frommer. – Bavaria

He was once Nuremberg’s top bratwurst protector and was considered the man who made the protection of origin for this Nuremberg specialty possible through his commitment. As has only just become known, Nuremberg’s former director of municipal law, Hartmut Frommer, died last Friday at the age of 81. Born in Württemberg, he worked for the city of Nuremberg for a total of 38 years, worked under three mayors and was the city’s top lawyer from 1997 until his retirement in 2008. In this function, he became “one of the legal founding fathers of the European metropolitan region of Nuremberg,” says Mayor Marcus König. Of course, Frommer became particularly well-known publicly for his tireless efforts to protect the rights to the Nuremberg Rostbratwurst – while those in the know got to know him as a well-trained lawyer who was as familiar with European cultural and intellectual history as he was with local and international law.
